About Ms. Simon's Art Class
In Ms. Simon's Art Class, students work with a variety of different materials and processes including, drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and digital art. Students are encouraged to make work about things that they care about and the world as they see it. Projects give them a foundation in artistic technique while teaching them how to create a concept or meaning in their work.

There are 3 levels of Art classes at Visitacion Valley Middle School:
- 6th Grade Intro to Art Class is a 9 week course for 6th graders where they get a little taste of different art materials and processes while creating a time capsule that they will open at the end of 8th grade.
- 7th Grade Beginning Art is a year long course for students who have only been in the 6th Grade Intro Class. In this class students delve deeper in to the Elements and Principles of Art while exploring a wide array of materials and exploring topics that interest them.
- The 8th Grade Advanced Class is a year long course for students who have taken both the 6th Grade Into Class and the 7th Grade Beginning Class. In this class students work on longer projects using more complex materials. Students have a lot of opportunity in this class to make choices in their work that helps them to find their artistic voice.
